A hex 1.5 mm in size. The middle grade of the coarser grid, suitable for load-bearing joint groups and frame joints.
Responsibility details are not available.
The hole for such a piece is not drilled to the head but to the shank beneath it. The head is to seat on the surface and stay above it, whereas the drilled hole is only to hold it. Anyone who drills to the dimension given in the name will get a head sunk into the hole and the whole effect disappears.
The order of steps matters as much as the choice of bit. Drilling comes first, because swarf and burrs are easier to remove from an unvarnished surface. Then the surface is cleared of burrs and only after that come the primer and the paint. Installing the finished pieces belongs at the very end, when the varnish has cured and there is no risk of tweezers leaving a mark in it.
What the middle grade suits: fifteen tenths of a millimeter fits joint groups that carry something. On rail as well as road machinery that means the mounting of leaf springs, bumper brackets and gearbox flanges. The family the piece belongs to reaches up to two millimeters, so there is plenty to grade from, upward as well as downward.
With glue there is only one rule: less is more. Draw thin cyanoacrylate glue onto the point of a needle and touch the rim of the hole with it only after the piece is in place. Capillary action carries the glue under the head by itself and the surface around stays clean, which on a glossy part tells at first glance.
