About product

Battleship Grey: AK interactive acrylic paint, 17 ml

A gray shade from the aircraft palette intended for British machines of the First World War. It is a water-thinnable acrylic modeling paint from the Air Series aircraft range, in a bottle of 17 ml. The paint is ready for the airbrush and for brushing alike, has a satin surface and a durable film, and reaches full cure in roughly 24 hours.

Where the color is used

Gray finishes appeared on British aircraft of the First World War above all on naval units and on machines where a neutral gray was chosen instead of the usual protective finish. The Battleship Grey shade is placed in the range with precisely this group of colors and is combined in a scheme with the linen shades and with the PC protective finishes. It has uses beyond aircraft subjects too, because a cool mid gray is rewarding on small fittings, weapons and diorama accessories, where it gets on well with washes and dry pigments.

Use and thinning

  • It is thinned with water or the same brand's acrylic thinner; lacquer and enamel thinners have no place in it.
  • For the airbrush it usually needs no further thinning, and it handles fine lines and transitions after a light thinning.
  • By brush it holds good covering power; let thin coats dry between applications.
  • Shake the bottle thoroughly before use, as the pigment settles during storage.
  • It holds best over a smooth base coat, and we recommend sealing the finished model with a clear coat of the sheen you want.

Who the paint is for

The paint suits modelers of First World War aircraft as well as anyone looking for a versatile muted gray in the form of a water-thinnable acrylic.

The paint is water-thinnable and non-toxic, yet still work in a ventilated space, use respiratory protection when spraying with an airbrush and keep it out of the reach of children.

FAQ

Water or the same brand's acrylic thinner. A lacquer or enamel thinner has no place in it and would curdle the paint.

The Air Series range is ready for the airbrush and usually only needs shaking. For fine lines and soft transitions, thin it lightly.

The bottle holds 17 ml of paint, which on a model in a usual aircraft scale will last for many builds.

We recommend one. Acrylic holds considerably better over a base coat, especially on photo-etched parts, resin and polished plastic.

It can be used, but the paint comes from an aircraft range. For accurate period naval shades, reach for a specialized naval palette.
