Laser-cut diorama parts from the manufacturer Model Scene that imitate precast concrete road slabs. A single slab measures 34 x 11 mm and is intended for H0 scale, that is 1:87. At that scale the part corresponds to a real slab roughly 3 x 1 meter, which is the usual format of the precast units used on temporary roads, handling areas and approaches.
The slabs are laid side by side into a continuous surface and so create a slab road, a yard, a vehicle park, an approach to a hall or a paved area beside an industrial siding. Slab roads are a rewarding element for a modeler: they have a clear, regular pattern of joints that gives the scene its scale, and at the same time they offer plenty of opportunities for weathering — worn wheel tracks, grass in the joints, unevenly settled slabs, oil stains.
Level the subsurface first, otherwise the joints between the slabs will be irregular. Glue the parts with PVA and leave a minimal gap between them, which you later pick out with a dark wash or a pigment. Concrete is never painted as one flat gray — start from a light gray base, break the surfaces up irregularly with lighter and warmer shades, and only then bring in a wash into the joints. Real slabs are rarely laid perfectly level: if you tilt or pack up a few pieces slightly, the road looks used straight away. Fine static grass and dust suit the joints.
This is a diorama accessory, not a model of a vehicle or a building. The glue, the paints and the terrain materials are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
