About product

Violet blossom tufts (Model Scene)

A finished flowering growth supplied on a backing film. The tuft consists of fine fibers with tiny violet flower accents and is used directly, with no scattering, shaping or soaking with a binder. Violet is among the most common colors of flowering herbs in the landscape, from knapweed and dead-nettle plants to run-wild lavender and vetch, and on a model it has the advantage of looking natural across a wide range of seasons, from late spring to the end of summer.

Adapting to the scale

Blossom tufts are not tied to a single scale and that is precisely their advantage, but it also means you have to watch the height yourself. The principle is simple: the growth should not reach higher than a figure's knees unless it is meant to be an emphatically weed-filled and neglected corner. In larger scales, therefore, use the tuft as it is; in smaller ones shorten it from below with sharp scissors, always cutting from underneath so that the naturally irregular upper edge stays untouched. Dividing one tuft into two or three parts moreover gives lower and thinner clumps, which suit smaller scales better than one compact bunch.

How to work with the tufts

Grip the tuft with tweezers by the lower foot and lift it straight off the film. If the underside holds by itself, press it in place and hold it for a moment; otherwise use a drop of PVA glue or cyanoacrylate gel and let it go tacky before seating. Press the tuft lightly into the terrain so that it does not look as if it merely lay on the surface, and scatter a little fine dust or earth at the foot. Comb the tips of the fibers out with the point of the tweezers so that the edge of the tuft is not sharply defined.

Who the tufts are for

  • Dioramas across a wider range of scales: the height is adjusted by cutting
  • Model railroad layouts and scenic modules
  • Scenes set from late spring to the end of summer
  • Modelers who want a color accent without working with loose materials

This is a scenic accessory for direct use. Glue and a base are not included in the package.

FAQ

Shorten it with sharp scissors always from below, so that the irregular upper edge is preserved. Dividing it into smaller parts gives a thinner and lower growth.

As a guide, ordinary low vegetation does not reach higher than a figure's knees. A taller growth signals a neglected and unmaintained place.

No. They are finished and hold their shape. Only their attachment to the base is fixed, and a drop of PVA glue or cyanoacrylate gel is enough for that.
