The set brings four trees whose needles are keyed to a cold blue-green color. In the real landscape that tone belongs to the blue spruce or the glaucous fir, and on a model it suits wherever growth is meant to look cold and remote.
Cool green appears to the eye as farther away than warm green. When these pieces are set at the back and trees of a more saturated, yellower shade come to the front, an impression of depth arises in the scene without anything having to be oversprayed. On the small area of a layout it is one of the least demanding ways to stop a scene looking flat.
The smallest tree is 8.89 cm and the largest 13.9 cm. The inner armature can be bent, so the lean of the trunk and the position of the main branches can be adjusted; the foliage holds in place and does not crumble under normal handling.
The pin under the trunk drops into a hole drilled in the base, and the second option is to fit the base supplied and leave the tree standing free. Portable modules can then be stacked without the crowns being crushed against the lid of a crate.
The weakest point of a model tree tends to be its foot. As soon as a smooth little patch appears around the pin, it is clear at first glance that the tree was pushed into a board. It is enough to add a little conifer litter and the transition disappears. Under conifers the ground really does tend to be bare, covered with fallen needles and without dense grass, so this step not only helps the scene but also matches reality.
