A single round Mirage Hobby brush with synthetic bristles in size 2, from the maker's standard range. To stress it again, this is an accessory for painting, not a kit. A two is a touch sturdier than a one: the bundle of bristles holds more paint, but the tip still comes together in a point, so it can be worked with precisely. It is exactly that combination that makes it the brush you will see most often in a modeling kit. Synthetic filament is springy and stands up well to solvents and to rougher materials, so it also suits places where natural bristles would soon be finished - pigments, thick acrylics or drybrushing, where the paint is dragged across edges and rivets. It is a brush you can work to death without regret and simply replace.

Care of the brush

Even a hard-wearing brush wants care: wash it right after work with the thinner matching the paint used - otherwise the paint stiffens at the ferrule and the bristles splay. Do not leave it standing tip down in a pot of thinner, as a bent tip will not straighten again. While painting, do not press on the bristles - with drybrushing, tap the paint out onto paper instead and work with light strokes. Dry the cleaned brush flat or tip upwards, never stuck tip down.
