Two flexible sanding pads of 3600 grit for fine finish sanding, cleanup and polishing.
Responsibility details are not available.
A pair of flexible sanding pads intended for fine finish sanding and final cleanup. A grit of 3600 no longer removes material in any measurable amount. Its job is to erase the scratches left by the coarser grades and to prepare the surface for steps with an even finer grit, or straight away for the application of a primer.
Typically after sanding a fuselage joint or after removing an ejector pin mark, when the area is flat but carries a matte texture from the earlier work. The pad bends over the pad of a finger and follows a curved surface, so on fins, fairings or the edges of openings it does not create the flat facets that a hard backing leaves behind.
Wet sanding lengthens the life of the pad and stops the grit from clogging with plastic dust. A dish of lukewarm water with a drop of dish soap is enough; rinse the pad from time to time and wipe it on a cloth. Choose the lightest possible pressure. A fine grit works slowly by its nature, and heavy pressure does not lead to a faster result; it only bends the soft backing and rounds off the edge you wanted to keep sharp.
A clogged pad stops cutting and begins to slide over the surface. It is enough to rinse it under running water, work it between your fingers and let it dry freely on the edge of the table. If you put a piece away still damp in a closed box, the binder steams and the grit starts to come loose.
