CHAOS DIRT is a liquid pigment from the weathering range of the brand AK interactive. According to the name it is pigment mixed into an enamel, that is solvent, carrier: it is applied with a brush straight from the bottle and, once the carrier has evaporated, a matte pigment deposit is left on the surface. Against loose powder, the work of fixing it falls away and the pigment can more easily be got into places a brush loaded with powder struggles to reach.
Shake the bottle thoroughly before every use, because the pigment settles to the bottom and without stirring only the carrier would be applied. Work on a thoroughly dry surface, ideally clear-coated, so that you have the effect under control and can take off any excess. Apply in thin layers and let each one dry, because the result can be built up and kept in check. As long as a layer has not dried, the transitions can be blended and the excess drawn off with a brush moistened in enamel thinner. Try the effect first in a hidden place or on an offcut of plastic.
For modelers of equipment, aircraft and ships who build realistic weathering, for builders of dioramas and for figure painters and tabletop gamers who want a believable layer of dirt on a model. It can also be used on bases and stands, where it is meant to tie a model to its scene.
