A color wheel in the form of a sticker that you put on your palette, on the lid of a box or straight onto your work surface. The wheel shows how the individual shades follow on from one another and which pairs lie opposite each other. When mixing colors that is considerably more practical than trying to recall a rule from memory, because the decision takes a moment and is made right at the bench.

Work tips

To mute a color that is too rich, add a tiny amount of the shade lying opposite it; the result will be more subdued and more natural than after adding gray or black. Mix in small amounts, as the change is abrupt at first. Stick the wheel where you can see it but where sprayed paint does not reach it, otherwise it will be fouled within a few sessions. Remember that a printed color and a color on a model differ; the wheel is for orientation, not for determining an exact shade.
