Tamiya Craft Spatula 20 mm is a modeling spatula with a 20 mm working width made of tough POM plastic. It serves for mixing and applying texture pastes, epoxy and putties.
Responsibility details are not available.
A hand tool for working with thick materials. The blade is 20 mm wide and is made of POM, that is polyacetal resin, which resists water and chemicals. The spatula therefore neither dissolves nor changes shape on contact with putties, epoxy adhesives and solvent-based paints, and after a rinse it is ready for use again straight away. The manufacturer is the Japanese company Tamiya.
Apply thick paste in several thinner layers and shape the texture while the material is still pliable — once dry it can only be shaped by sanding. The flat side of the blade creates a smooth, compacted surface, while the edge cuts ruts, furrows or uneven ground. If you need a finer texture, tap the surface with the blade held flat and it will lift the material into small peaks. Clean the tool immediately after use, before the material dries: water-thinnable pastes only need rinsing, while with epoxy and solvent-based putties you wipe the residue off with a cloth and a suitable thinner. Dried residue can usually be peeled off POM, because it holds only weakly to the smooth surface of the material.
For builders of dioramas and bases who work with texture pastes, and in general for any modeler who fills seams and uses two-part materials. The 20 mm width is a compromise between covering an area quickly and still being able to work in a smaller scene.
The tool has a fairly sharp edge, so handle it carefully. Keep out of the reach of children.
