Wilderness with bushes in the early summer version is finished growth for dioramas and display-case scenes from the Czech manufacturer Model Scene. It imitates an untended overgrown area where taller grass, weeds and low bushes mix — that is the type of vegetation that arises on abandoned land, field margins, forest edges, by ruins or along neglected tracks.
The seasonal version sets the coloring. Early summer means fresh, richly green growth at the full strength of the vegetation, still before summer drought beats it down. The shades are lively and cooler, and the individual layers of the growth differ from one another in color. It is precisely the layering of low grass, taller weeds and bushes that gives the area depth, which is hard to achieve by sprinkling static grass by hand.
An overgrown area is rewarding where a scene is meant to say that nobody looks after the land: an abandoned farm, the edge of a battlefield, a vehicle wreck being overgrown, an embankment by a line, the edge of a forest. Taller bushes also break up a flat composition and give a diorama a vertical rhythm. Glue the growth onto a substrate with PVA or thin white glue, loosen the edges and fill the transition with tufts of grass or turfs. If the vegetation is growing into a vehicle or into masonry, place individual parts of the growth between the parts of the model as well — it is precisely that kind of detail that gives a scene credibility.
This is a scenery accessory for building dioramas, not a model kit. The glue, the base board and any further terrain materials are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
