The small beige turf tufts are finished pieces of dry, straw-colored grass with no green. They suit parched landscapes, steppe and winter scenes, and they are simply laid down and glued on.

A finished, colored turf tuft from the Czech maker of scenic vegetation Model Scene. The grassy surface is simply laid into a diorama and glued on; nothing is built and nothing is painted over. The small format serves to complete a scene deliberately: at the foot of buildings, around stones and wrecks, in ditches, on verges and in places where a continuous area would look unnatural.
The beige variant has no green component at all: it is purely dry, straw-colored grass. That is how it differs from the seasonal shades, which always contain some green. It comes into its own in settings where the grass has dried out completely: in dry steppe and semi-desert country, on south-facing slopes at the end of summer, on burnt and dusty areas, around rutted field tracks and in abandoned compounds. Its second great use is in winter: under snow and after it melts, exactly such faded dry stalks are left. The beige tuft is therefore more versatile than it first seems: it works as a neutral dry base that you adjust in color yourself.
Clean the base, apply a thin layer of PVA glue and press the turf down; leave it weighted until it dries. Thin out the edges and cover the transition into the terrain with sand, dust or fine scatter material. Because the material is light, it takes painting over better than dark shades do: with very thinned acrylic sprayed from a distance you can easily turn it into a late-summer shade or, on the contrary, into grayish winter grass. Always test the color on an offcut and apply it in several light coats, so that you do not glue the growth together.
The turf tufts are supplied finished and colored. Glue, a base and other scenic materials are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
