Soft Sanding Sponges, 2000 grit is a set of soft Madworks sanding sponges for preparing the surface before polishing. It is used as the last sanding step before the compound.

Soft sanding sponges of 2000 grit from the Taiwanese brand Madworks. It is a fine grade that no longer takes material off the surface but only levels it: it removes the scratches left by the previous coarser sanding and leaves behind a surface ready for polishing. For this grit the manufacturer therefore states preparation before polishing explicitly.
The 2000 grit does not have the strength for coarse work. Level the surface first with lower grades, typically after 1000 or 1200, and reach for this step only then, otherwise you will be sanding for a long time and without result. The soft sponge follows the curve, so it will not sand flat spots onto rounded surfaces. It can be used dry or with water; wet sanding is cleaner at such a fine grit and the sponge does not clog. Degrease the surface once you have finished, before you apply the compound. Do not breathe in the dust, and wash a worn sponge out, as it goes on sanding.
For modelers of glossy surfaces: cars, motorcycles, clear canopies and display pieces. Outside plastic the fine sponges also suit the leveling of paintwork. The manufacturer has the whole soft range from the coarser 240 grit up to 3000, so it is possible to build on it. Polishing compound and clear coat are not included in the package.
