Eight grass strips from the German maker HEKI, one hundred millimeters long, with growth ten millimeters high, in autumn coloring. Tall parched grass is one of the most effective elements on a model at all, because it carries two pieces of information at once: it establishes the season and says that nobody looks after the area. A strip of it laid along a wall or a disused track does more for the atmosphere of a scene than another building.

How to work with the strips

The strips are not self-adhesive; they are fixed with modeling glue, ideally a flock adhesive or PVA glue. Apply a thin line of glue and lay the strip into it, shortening it with scissors if needed. Fray the ends with your fingers and keep the joints irregular. If you are building a snow-covered scene, lay the dry strip as the lower layer and apply the snow so that the blades grow through it in places. That is exactly what lifts a winter diorama.
