A finished model tree from the German maker HEKI, eighteen centimeters tall. Among broadleaf trees an oak is recognized by its massive trunk and broad spreading crown with a markedly irregular outline. On a model it therefore tends to be the tree that gives the oldest impression in a scene, and it is planted where the landscape should be seen to have a history: by a chapel, on a village green or alone on a grassy strip between fields.
The tree is pushed into a pre-drilled hole or glued by the foot of the trunk. With a mature piece make the hole deeper and fix the trunk in it with a drop of glue, as the heavy crown would otherwise make the tree lean. Spread the flattened branches carefully with your fingers after unpacking and leave the outline of the crown irregular. Add grass and low growth under the tree, and with an old oak root flares suggested with filler suit it too.
For layout and diorama builders who need a striking tree as a landmark, and for modelers fine-tuning the surroundings of buildings. This is modeling material, not a toy. The manufacturer marks its scenery products as unsuitable for children under fifteen.
