About product

What a wall is for in a scene

A brick wall is an unobtrusive but decisive piece of scenery. It encloses a yard, closes off the background of a diorama, hides the edge of a base and above all gives the scene its scale, because the eye judges the size of a vehicle or a figure precisely by the courses of brick. Clinker masonry tends to be darker and rawer than ordinary brick, so it suits industrial buildings, station and retaining walls and the perimeter wall of a depot.

Size and area

The panel measures 40 x 20 cm, that is 800 square centimeters of surface. In H0 scale that corresponds to a wall roughly 35 meters long and over 17 meters high, which is a great deal for one wall: from a single piece you will therefore usually get several lower stretches, a building gable and a band below the windows. Before you start cutting, plan the parts out on paper so that you are not left with nothing but narrow offcuts.

How to work with it

First offer the panel up dry and draw round the shape, and only then cut. Run the cut along a joint, not across a brick, otherwise the edge will look artificial at first glance. Hide the join of two pieces behind a corner, a pier, a downpipe or some planting. Choose the glue according to the surface and the material of the panel and try it on an offcut; the exact procedure is given in the manufacturer's instructions.

Painting and terms of supply

The texture stands out when you run a dark wash into the joints and work the raised edges of the bricks with a dry brush in a lighter shade. It pays to add a cast of dust and damp patches at the foot of the wall, because real masonry is always dirtier at the bottom than at the top. Paints, glue, a base and the other parts of the scene are not included, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

According to the name it measures 40 x 20 cm, that is roughly 800 square centimeters of surface.

For H0 scale, that is 1:87. In it the panel corresponds to a wall about 35 meters long and over 17 meters high, so it is usually divided into several smaller stretches.

Run it along the joint between the bricks, not across a brick. Then hide the join of two panels behind a corner, a pier or some planting.

With an adhesive that matches both the surface and the material of the panel. Try it on an offcut first and check the exact procedure in the manufacturer's instructions.
