Paul Atreides is the central character of Dune, Frank Herbert's sprawling science fiction saga. He is the son of a duke of House Atreides, who takes over the stewardship of the desert planet Arrakis, the only source of the precious spice. The story follows his path from heir of a great house to leader of the desert people. Thanks to the books and the film adaptations he is one of the best known characters in the genre.
A figure in 1:12 scale, that is in the size that is popular for collector's figures: an adult figure comes out at roughly fifteen centimeters in it. The figure is supplied as a kit, unassembled and unpainted, so the final look is up to you. The range of parts and the assembly sequence are given in the manufacturer's instructions.
Wash and degrease the parts before painting, otherwise the paint will not hold. Try the assembly dry first so that you know which parts are better painted separately; the head and the hands in particular are far easier to work on before gluing. Fill and sand the seams smooth after gluing, because on a large figure every irregularity is clearly visible. Paint the face and the small details with a brush that keeps a firm point, and an airbrush will handle the areas of clothing better. Apply the paint in thin coats so that the relief is not lost.
The figure will please collectors of film and literary science fiction as well as a modeler who wants to try working on a large figure, where painting skin and fabrics comes into its own. The package holds the figure to build; the paints, the glue, the filler and tools are not included, unless stated otherwise.
