A set from the First Diorama Set range by the manufacturer Revell in 1:1200 scale. The range is conceived so that a small scene comes out of it, not just a standalone model on a base, and the theme here is the naval engagement around the German battleship Bismarck.
The Bismarck was a German battleship launched at the close of the 1930s and taken into service in 1940. She sailed on her only operational voyage in May 1941, when she met British ships in the Denmark Strait, and after a pursuit lasting several days she was sunk in the Atlantic a few days later. A scale of 1:1200 is practical for this subject, because large ships stay a reasonable size in it and more vessels fit side by side, which matters in a diorama scene.
In 1:1200 scale, clean work decides more than the amount of detail. Separate the parts with a sharp knife, not by twisting, and glue them with liquid cement applied on the tip of a brush, so that the fluid does not run over the deck. Spray the hulls with an airbrush or from a spray can and finish the small superstructures with a brush. Do not pick out the panel lines strongly in this scale, because a very thin wash is enough. For the water surface on the base, acrylic gel has proved itself: once dry it is overcoated with gloss varnish and lightened with white paint in the wake behind the ship.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
