1:1200 HMS Duke of York - Model Set is a plastic kit of the British battleship in the small 1:1200 scale, which Revell supplies in the Model Set edition as a starter package.
Responsibility details are not available.
1:1200 scale is a practical choice for large warships: the finished model fits on a shelf and yet keeps the overall silhouette of the hull and the superstructure. At Revell the Model Set edition is conceived as a starter package, so basic equipment for finishing the kit is usually included with it; you will find the exact composition on the box. That makes it a suitable gift and a manageable start for a newcomer to ship models.
HMS Duke of York belonged to the British King George V class, that is to the battleships built to the interwar treaty limits. The main armament consisted of 14-inch guns arranged in turrets fore and aft. The ship entered history in December 1943 off the North Cape, where it took part in the sinking of the German battlecruiser Scharnhorst in one of the last great gunnery battles in Europe. It also served as a vessel for carrying statesmen across the Atlantic.
A small scale means a lot of small parts, so have tweezers, a sharp cutter and thin cement for plastic ready. Paint the hull and the decks before the superstructure goes onto them; an airbrush suits the gray shades, but a brush will manage it too. The intricate superstructure will stand out after a light dark wash run into the shadows. The model works well on a simple base or on a dark board suggesting the surface of the sea.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted; what exactly the Model Set edition includes is stated on the box.
