1:24 40' CONTAINER TRAILER

40 ft container semitrailer 1:24 - Italeri

An injection-molded plastic kit of a 40 foot container semitrailer from Italeri in 1:24 scale. It is not a vehicle of its own with a cab but a semitrailer meant to be coupled behind a model tractor unit in the same scale. The assembly includes the semitrailer chassis with its axles and a 40 foot ISO shipping container; the finished model is over half a meter long. The box contains decals for finishing the container. The kit is supplied unassembled and unpainted.

The real subject

Container semitrailers are the backbone of long-distance road haulage - they carry standardized ISO containers between ports, terminals and customers. The semitrailer consists of a steel frame with axles and twist locks into which the container is secured. The forty foot container is the most widespread size in the world and together with a tractor unit it makes up the classic combination you meet on the highway every day.

Building and painting tips

Paint the semitrailer frame and the container separately, so that you can reach into the corners of the structure. The frame comes into its own with weathering - a fine wash in the recesses and dust pigments on the underside and the wheels add realism. Spray the container with a base color and add the decals of shipping companies; a scuffed, worn look suits it better than perfect gloss. Check that the fifth wheel is compatible with your tractor unit.
