What the set solves

The wheels are the only place on a model of an aircraft by which the machine touches the ground, and that is exactly why the eye looks for weight on them. The part from a kit tends to be perfectly round, so the model looks as if it were barely touching the floor. A weighted wheel has a flat footprint in the contact patch, as if the weight of the aircraft had squeezed the tire, and the difference can be seen at once. The attribute type 1 sets the version apart within the range; type 2 is also made, because more kinds of tires with a different tread pattern were used on the subject.

The Bf 109 was a German single-seat fighter aircraft of the Second World War. According to the name, the set is meant for the F version and for the early machines of the G version. Which wheel belongs to your particular machine is something to check in your reference material, because the version changed in the course of production.

Building tips

• The flat spot has to point toward the ground, as otherwise the model looks as if the wheel had been fitted crookedly.
• Try the axle dry, so that after gluing the wheel stands vertical and the model does not rock.
• Cut the surplus material off with a sharp blade a little way from the part and sand the rest down carefully.
• The parts are not made of polystyrene and are glued with super glue.
• Before painting, wash and degrease the parts, as otherwise the paint will not hold on the smooth surface.
