This set from the Ukrainian maker Kelik is a cockpit detail accessory, not a kit. It brings 3D decals, relief parts in full color on decal film that capture the instrument panels and the side panels of the two-seat cockpit with a three-dimensional look. It takes the place of lengthy painting and of photo-etched parts and gets you to a realistic interior faster. The D has different cockpit equipment from the C, and this set matches it. The decals are shaped for Tamiya kits.

The real subject

The McDonnell Douglas F-4 D Phantom II was an American two-seat supersonic fighter powered by a pair of General Electric J79 engines. The D grew out of the C and brought improved avionics and fire control systems. It was widely used by the US Air Force, including in the fighting over Vietnam.

Use and tips

• Degrease and smooth the surface, and apply the decals to the smooth areas of both cockpits.
• Work part by part and press them down into the detail with a soft cotton swab; use a decal softener only as the manufacturer's instructions say.
• Match them to the cockpit color of the base model in the same scale.
