This item from the Ukrainian maker MARS Model aims at a theme that turns up rarely among figures: soldiers ready for action after dark. The castings are plastic, in 1:32 scale, and they are supplied without paint, so the final look is entirely up to you.
Night was a discipline of its own during the Second World War. In the dark, raids were made on enemy positions, obstacles were cleared, prisoners were dragged out and rear-area columns were attacked. Soldiers setting out on such tasks carried lighter and quieter equipment than in a daytime attack and relied on short range and surprise. It is precisely that mood - a crouching advance, watchfulness, no showy parade pose - that gives the set a different character from ordinary infantry figures and works well in scenes with a limited light source.
Night lighting is painted with light, not with darkness. Keep the base cool, with a blue-gray cast, and add highlights from one place only, from a flashlight or a burning wreck for instance. Leave the other surfaces muted and low in contrast. Wash the castings beforehand and go over the mold seams. Before gluing, check the joint on a sprue offcut; with figure plastic, super glue tends to be the safer bet than classic polystyrene cement.
The soldiers come in bare plastic, without paint and without any accessories for painting.
