Replacement landing gear wheels for a model of the Grumman A-6 Intruder carrier aircraft and its derived EA-6 version in 1:32 scale. This is a resin, or rather 3D-printed, accessory used on a model in place of the parts from the box. The set holds neither the aircraft nor any parts of the landing gear beyond those its name gives.
The wheels are one of the few places on a model where the weight of the machine shows as it sits on its base. An injection-molded plastic wheel is usually split into halves, so a parting line is left around the circumference of the tire that has to be laboriously sanded away, and the tread pattern tends to be simplified. A casting or a print is in one piece, with no seam, with a more pronounced tread pattern and with fine rendering of the hub and the valve. In the large 1:32 scale the difference is obvious at first glance, because a wheel occupies a large area on the model.
Separate the parts carefully from the casting block with a fine-toothed saw or a cutter, and never break them off. Level the cut faces with a file and wash the whole part in lukewarm water with detergent, so that residues of mold release agent or print resin are removed; without washing, the paint holds badly. Do the sanding wet and with respiratory protection, as resin dust should not be inhaled. They are glued with cyanoacrylate, because ordinary cement for plastic does not take on resin. Lay a primer on before painting, and only then the dark tire color. A matte finish and light dusting with pigment on the tread give the best impression.
