The Boeing AH-64 Apache is an American two-seat attack helicopter with a tandem cockpit and a four-blade main rotor. A striking recognition feature of the tail is the tail rotor, which does not form the usual regular cross: the four blades are arranged into two two-blade pairs on a common shaft and stand at unequal angles to one another. On a model it is one of the details everyone notices among the first, and at the same time it tends to be simplified in a kit.
The accessory replaces the tail rotor from the kit with a more accurately executed assembly. The blades have a thinner profile than can be molded in plastic and keep the correct relative angle of the two pairs. The parts are shaped for AH-64 kits in 1:35 scale from Takom, Meng and Snowman.
The material of the parts is not polystyrene and ordinary cement for plastic models has no effect on it, so use cyanoacrylate glue. Cut the surplus material off with a sharp blade a little way from the part and sand the remainder gently, so that the shape of the leading edge is preserved. Wash the hub and the blades in lukewarm soapy water before painting and let them dry, or the paint will hold badly on a greasy surface. Apply the paint in thin layers, so that the edges are not lost on the narrow blades. The manufacturer's instructions describe the particular procedure for preparing the parts.
The set suits modelers who want to lift the level of a finished model visibly with a single replacement, without laboriously building a whole interior. Fitting is quick and even a less experienced builder will manage it. The package contains only the parts of the tail rotor. The kit, paints and glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
