A plastic kit of the BMP-3 infantry fighting vehicle in 1:35 scale from Trumpeter, in the form matching the vehicles in service on Cyprus. It is an injection-molded kit of a tracked vehicle with a turret combining several weapons.
The BMP-3 is a Soviet and later Russian infantry fighting vehicle with an unusual layout: the engine is at the rear, the driver and part of the dismounts are at the front and the rest of the squad in the middle. The turret carries a 100 mm 2A70 gun, which can also deliver guided anti-tank fire, next to it a 30 mm 2A72 autocannon and a coaxial 7.62 mm machine gun. That combination gives the vehicle firepower that most contemporary carriers do not have. The vehicle is amphibious and crosses water with waterjets. The Cypriot National Guard took the BMP-3 into service in the middle of the 1990s and was among the first foreign users outside the area of the former Soviet Union, which makes it an interesting example of Russian-designed equipment in a European army.
