An injection-molded plastic kit of the Russian BMP-3 infantry fighting vehicle in the version with added protection for the hull and the turret. Upgrade sets of this kind grew out of combat experience, which showed that the basic armor of a light tracked vehicle is not enough against hand-held anti-tank weapons. The model is released by Trumpeter in 1:35 scale, so it can be built together with figures and with other equipment in the same scale.
The BMP-3 is a tracked infantry fighting vehicle with an unusual layout: the engine is at the rear, the driver front and center, and the turret carries a combined armament. That consists of a 100 millimeter gun, which doubles as a launcher for guided missiles, a coaxial 30 millimeter automatic cannon and a machine gun. The vehicle is amphibious and swims under its own power. Add-on armor in the form of panels on the front and the sides raises its protection markedly, but at the same time it adds weight and changes its silhouette, which shows clearly on the model.
Finish and paint the running gear before you attach the add-on panels, otherwise the road wheels become hard to reach. Glue the panels only after a dry fit, so that they line up evenly along the whole length of the side. Lighten the Russian protective green finish on the upper surfaces, bring out the gaps between the panels with a dark wash and weather the underside of the vehicle and the tracks with dust pigments.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
