Finished canvas covers in 1:35 scale as an accessory to models of military vehicles and to diorama scenes. The folds are shaped in advance.
Responsibility details are not available.
A canvas cover is a small thing on a military vehicle that gives a scene life. On its own it reveals that the machine drove somewhere and stood somewhere: a covered load, a rolled strip of tarpaulin on a fender or a canvas thrown over a crate look lived-in and break up bare surfaces. And yet this is exactly the detail that is hardest to build, because a canvas cover has to be thin and softly folded at the same time.
Imitating a canvas cover from foil, paper or putty is a job of several attempts and the result often stays hard and angular. A finished part has the folds modeled in advance, so the hardest part falls away and the modeler only has to deal with placing it. In 1:35 scale the difference is clearly visible, because the vehicle is large and the viewer comes closer to it.
The parts are not polystyrene, so plastic cement has no effect on them; they are glued with cyanoacrylate. Cut off the excess material with a sharp blade a little away from the part and sand the remainder down, so that the part seats on its base over its whole area and does not stand proud anywhere. Before painting, wash the cover in lukewarm water with dish soap and degrease it. A flat coat of the base color looks best, over which a lighter tone is laid lightly on the ridges of the folds and a darker glaze into the grooves; a dry pigment at the lower edge then suggests dust from the ground. Try the placing dry before you reach for the glue.
For builders of military vehicles and dioramas in 1:35 scale whose scene is missing exactly this kind of small thing. Paints, glue and tools are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
