An injection-molded plastic kit of a German armored railway car of the Second World War. The Panzerjägerwagen was the anti-tank element of German armored trains of the later period: a tank turret with a long gun was mounted on an armored railway car, so that the train got a weapon against enemy tanks. The model is released by Trumpeter in 1:35 scale as the second volume of its series devoted to these cars.
German armored trains served mainly to protect railway lines and rear areas, but in the second half of the war they came into contact with advancing armored units more and more often. Standard artillery cars were not enough for that, and so the Panzerjägerwagen came about, carrying the turret of a Panzer IV tank with a long gun of 7.5 centimeter caliber. This variant was one of the characteristic elements of the BP 44 type armored trains deployed on the Eastern Front.
Build the armored car in sections: first the underframe with the pair of railway bogies, then the body and finally the turret, which can be left able to turn. The armor plates deserve clean edges, so sand the parting seams dry and check the right angles as you go. German dark yellow with patches is the logical choice, but the car comes into its own when you add the railway setting to it: rails with a rusty head, dusty ballast and oil stains under the axles. Rust and grease are more at home here than on a tracked vehicle.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
