1:35 Grille 30 30.5 cm Mörser Bär is a glue-together plastic kit of the German project for a self-propelled 30.5 cm heavy mortar in 1:35 scale from Trumpeter.
Responsibility details are not available.
This glue-together plastic kit belongs among the so-called paper projects, that is German design proposals from the end of the Second World War that never reached series production. It captures a heavy 30.5 cm mortar on a tracked chassis derived from heavy tanks. Thanks to its enormous barrel and tall superstructure the model in 1:35 scale is an exceptionally striking piece that immediately draws the eye in a display case among ordinary tanks.
In the last years of the war German design offices worked on a series of self-propelled mounts for heavy artillery meant to allow rapid movement between firing positions. Among this group of proposals were carriers for heavy mortars built on components of heavy tanks. The weapon was to destroy fortifications and urban buildings, where a steep trajectory and a heavy projectile come into their own. None of these projects, however, saw service; the work remained at drawings and wooden mock-ups.
Finish the running gear and the tracks first, and only then close up the hull and build the superstructure. The massive barrel deserves careful cleaning up of the mold parting line, because on a large surface every unevenness shows. On an unbuilt project the color scheme is not tied down by photographs, so you have a free choice between a single-color field shade and the late three-tone camouflages. Spray the transitions between the colors softly and even the surfaces out at the end with light weathering and dust from the running gear.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
