The set represents the KMT-6 mine clearing device itself in 1:35 scale. It is therefore not a tank kit but an accessory that is added to the front of a vehicle model that has already been built or is under construction. Whether attachment points have to be added to the front of the model differs according to the particular kit you are mounting the plow on.

What the KMT-6 was for

Mine trawls of the KMT series belonged to the Soviet engineer equipment of tank units. The plow type works differently from the roller type: instead of setting a mine off by pressure, the blade travels under the surface, turns the mines out of the track lane and pushes them aside, out of the vehicle's path. The device was hung on the front attachment points of medium and main battle tanks, and a unit used it to force a passage through a minefield for the equipment following behind. In practice it is a fitting that immediately moves a model from a display of a type to a particular combat situation.

Building and painting tips

First dry-fit the plow on the front of the model and check that the blade sits level and symmetrically. In color the plow keeps to the base shade of the vehicle, but it is exactly here that it makes sense to overstate the wear: blade edges polished down to bare metal, earth and dust in the mechanism, rust in the welds. The contrast between a dusty hull and a worn blade is what gives the set its credibility.
