This set from AFV Club covers, in 1:35 scale, the American M1A1 heavy gun of 155 millimeters of the Second World War period, and its period nickname Long Tom. It is not a vehicle but the weapon itself together with its wheeled carriage.
The gun grew out of the French artillery school of the First World War, but the American army reworked it thoroughly. The long barrel gave the shell a high muzzle velocity and a range of over twenty kilometers, which made the weapon an instrument of corps artillery for counter-battery fire and for destroying fortifications. The multi-wheeled split-trail carriage opened out in the firing position and was lowered onto a firing base; tracked tractors moved it. Batteries served in Italy, in Normandy and in the Pacific.
Artillery kits have a different rhythm from tanks: there are plenty of thin struts, joints and small handwheels ahead of you. Assemble them on a flat board so that the carriage stands without rocking. The barrel deserves careful sanding of the parting seam, because a cylindrical surface reveals every scratch. The whole thing comes out excellently on a small patch of terrain with ammunition boxes and a crew.
It is sold as an unassembled set of parts; obtain your own glue and paints for the build.
