About product

M911 C-HET with the heavy M747 semitrailer, 1:35, Hobby Boss

An injection-molded plastic kit of the American heavy tractor M911 C-HET together with the heavy M747 semitrailer; the trailer is part of the package. The kit is richly broken down: it contains over 700 plastic parts on twelve sprues, two photo-etched parts, rubber tires with a molded tread and a complete drivetrain including the engine, the gearbox, the transfer case and the axle suspension. The cab is produced by slide molding. The finished rig is roughly 626 mm long and 96 mm wide, which has to be allowed for when planning a display case or a diorama. The load (a tank) is not part of the package.

The real subject

A tank cannot drive long distances under its own power: it wears out its tracks, burns an enormous amount of fuel and breaks up the road. It is therefore carried to the battlefield on a huge semitrailer, and a heavy equipment transporter is thus as essential as the tank itself. Without one an armored formation simply cannot move. The M911 C-HET is an American heavy tractor with 8x6 drive from Oshkosh, developed in the 1970s to carry tanks and other heavy equipment. It is powered by a turbocharged Detroit Diesel engine of the 8V92T series. Paired with the M747 trailer it carried American tanks including the M60 and the M1 Abrams; among other operations it served in Operation Desert Shield and Operation Desert Storm. With the heaviest tanks it was at the limit of its ability, and in the role of the main tank transporter it was replaced by the more capable Oshkosh M1070.

Building and painting tips

Assemble and adjust the running gear and the frame before you close anything up; on a tank transporter the chassis is visible on the model. Use thin cement for plastic (it is drawn into the seam by capillary action) and treat the surfaces with a primer before painting. It is practical to paint the cab and the trailer separately and to join them only at the end. For weathering use washes in the recesses and pigments for dust and mud on the load bed and in the wheel arches. The rig is an ideal basis for a diorama with a tank loaded on it; it can be combined with any 1:35 tank you already have at home.

Who the model is for

  • Modelers of modern American military vehicles and logistics
  • Diorama builders; a loaded tank makes a striking scene
  • Anyone interested in large models with a worked-out chassis and engine
  • More advanced builders who want a more complex project
  • Collectors who have 1:35 tanks and are looking for a transporter for them

The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

Yes. The package contains the M911 C-HET tractor as well as the heavy M747 trailer, so you build the whole rig. The load (a tank) is not included.

According to the manufacturer the finished rig is roughly 626 mm long and 96 mm wide. It is a markedly long model, and room has to be prepared for it.

A long move under its own power wears out a tank track, burns an enormous amount of fuel and damages roads. That is why a tank is carried to the battlefield on a heavy trailer; without a transporter an army cannot move efficiently.

Yes, and that is one of the main reasons modelers buy this rig. Any 1:35 tank from your collection will serve as the load for a striking diorama.
