What the mat is for

A cutting mat measuring 450 x 300 mm, that is a little larger than a sheet of A3 (297 x 420 mm). It protects the desktop from being cut through, holds material in place and saves blades: an edge goes blunt more slowly on a resilient mat than on a hard surface such as glass, metal or varnished wood.

Where it is useful

It finds a use anywhere cutting, trimming and cleaning up is done. When separating parts, cutting profiles and sheet, trimming decal sheets, cutting masking tape and in ordinary work with paper and card. The size given matches the usual working area on a modeling bench, so the mat does not have to be moved for every operation. A sheet laid out flat or a longer profile fits on it without overhanging the edge onto the desktop.

Care and safety

• Do not keep working in one groove; spread the cuts over the surface.
• Clean it with a damp cloth; solvents will damage the surface.
• Do not put hot tools down on the mat and do not leave it in direct sunlight, as it may warp.
• Store it flat, not rolled up.
• Use a sharp blade; a blunt one slides over the material and is more dangerous.

Additional information

The mat is equipment for the workbench and has nothing to do with the scale of the model being built; you will use it just the same on a small kit as on a large vehicle. A cutting knife, spare blades and a ruler are not included, unless stated otherwise.
