Unassembled plastic kit of the Soviet 1S91 SURN tracked radar vehicle of the Kub air defense complex in 1:35 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
The 1S91 vehicle, known by the abbreviation SURN, was the radar element of the Soviet 2K12 Kub ground-based surface-to-air missile complex. On a tracked chassis it carried two rotating antenna arrays: one searched for and tracked the air target, the other illuminated it for the guided missiles. Without this vehicle the launch vehicles of the complex were practically blind.
The Kub complex served with the Soviet army and with a number of other armies that took it over, and in Western surveys the designation Straight Flush came to be used for its radar. The whole system was mobile and moved together with the ground units, which was a fundamental advantage over older fixed positions.
The kit is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue the large flat antenna parts on a flat surface and let them cure thoroughly so that they do not warp. It is more comfortable to paint the antenna arrays separately and to fit them at the very end. Separate the other parts with a sharp blade a little away from the part and sand the remainder. Wash and degrease the model before painting; the thinner and the thinning ratio follow the paint manufacturer's instructions on the packaging.
The set will please modelers who work on equipment of Eastern origin in 1:35 scale, and builders of dioramas with air defense assets. Building the large antenna surfaces rewards careful work, because they are immediately visible on the finished model. Paints, glue, filler and figures are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
