This injection-molded plastic kit in 1:35 scale from Hobby Boss captures a combination of the heavy KrAZ-260B cross-country tractor and the 5P85TE semi-trailer launcher, which belongs to the S-300PMU surface-to-air missile system. It is therefore two linked units, not a single vehicle.
The KrAZ-260 is a heavy all-wheel-drive cross-country truck from the Kremenchuk works, built from the 1980s and used in its tractor version to tow artillery and missile equipment. The 5P85TE is the semi-trailer variant of the launcher of the S-300P system, a long-range air defense complex intended to destroy aircraft and missiles at great distances. The missiles are held in cylindrical transporter-launcher containers that are raised to the vertical before launch. The designation PMU denotes the export version of the system. The combination of tractor and semi-trailer is a typical image of air defense at the end of the Cold War.
Split the build into two units, the tractor and the semi-trailer, and join them only after painting. The chassis with its many wheels needs all of them to sit in one plane, so let it cure on a flat board. The cab and the containers are large smooth surfaces that reveal every flaw, so primer pays off. After the base coat the detail comes out well with a dark wash; concentrate the dust and mud on the wheels, the chassis and the fenders.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
