A tarpaulin over the fighting compartment of the Sturer Emil self-propelled gun in 1:35 scale is a resin accessory from the Royal Model brand.
Responsibility details are not available.
This accessory, cast in polyurethane resin with photo-etched elements, imitates the canvas that a crew pulled over the open top of the fighting compartment of the heavy tank destroyer. It is not a kit of the vehicle but a detail that is fitted to a finished model.
The designation Sturer Emil was carried by a German 12.8 cm self-propelled gun built on the lengthened chassis of the VK 30.01(H) prototype. Only two were made and both headed east in 1942, where they served with an anti-tank battalion in the area of Stalingrad. One of them, named Max by its crew, fell into Soviet hands in January 1943 and has survived to this day in a Russian museum collection. The tall superstructure had no roof, so a tarpaulin was an entirely routine piece of equipment.
Try the part dry first, because the tolerances of the superstructure differ from one kit to another. Fill small gaps with modeling putty and sand them away to nothing. Textile is painted so that the folds stand out: a lighter base, a darker glaze into the hollows and a dry brush on the edges. Dust and earth on the lower areas then tie the tarpaulin in with the rest of the vehicle.
The tarpaulin is cast with no surface finish, and you will find neither paints nor putty in the box.
