A replacement tail rotor for models of helicopters of the Black Hawk family in 1:35 scale. It replaces the part from the kit with a more accurate rendering of the rotor head, the blade hinges and their mountings. The tail rotor on the Black Hawk is striking because it is not vertical: the plane of rotation is canted, so the rotor also helps to carry part of the weight of the tail. The cant and the shape of the head are precisely the details by which a carefully built model is recognized.
The Black Hawk has served since the end of the 1970s as the main transport helicopter of the US Army, and its derivatives carry out tasks from rescuing crews to armed support. The tail rotor has four blades arranged as a crossed pair and a plane of rotation canted from the vertical. This solution increases efficiency in the hover and was one of the design features of the machine that its first users already noticed.
Snip the part off its supports close to the model and level the face with a file or a scalpel. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). Apply a primer before painting. On the real machine the blade edges have erosion protection in a different shade from the rest of the blade, so it pays to mask it and spray it separately. Apply the warning stripes only onto a cured finish.
This is an accessory, not a complete model. It is supplied unassembled and unpainted.
