This injection-molded plastic kit in 1:35 scale from Revell captures the Wiesel 2, a light tracked armored vehicle of the German army. The designation LeFlaSys belongs to the family of vehicles of the light anti-aircraft system built on this chassis; the abbreviation BF/UF in the name identifies the particular version within that family. The model is interesting in that in 1:35 scale it looks smaller than most armored vehicles: beside an ordinary carrier the Wiesel really is a tiny machine.
The Wiesel came about from a requirement by airborne units for an armored vehicle a transport aircraft could carry and that could get through where an ordinary tracked carrier could not. The second generation was given a longer hull, a more powerful engine and more internal space, so equipment that would not fit in the original vehicle could be installed. Vehicles of the LeFlaSys series serve for the short-range air defense of their own units: some of them carry armament, some sensors and some provide fire control. Small dimensions and a low silhouette are the main asset of this equipment.
Finish and paint the running gear before the hull is closed up; on a small vehicle it is seen really close up. Sand the parts carefully, as the small scale of the subject means an error in shape shows at once. Modern German vehicles most often wear the three-tone NATO camouflage, which sprays well with an airbrush through templates of modeling compound or a paper mask. Varnish the surfaces with gloss varnish before the decals, and spray them with matte once dry. Keep the patina restrained: light dust on the underside, fine chipping on the edges and the walking surfaces.
