A plastic kit of a battleship of German build in 1:350 scale. 1:350 is the most common compromise for large warships: the model is big enough to carry fine detail on the superstructure and the armament, and it still fits a cabinet at home. The conversion is easy, as one centimeter on the model corresponds to three and a half meters on the real ship.
Building a ship has a different rhythm from building an aircraft or a tank. The hull and the deck are finished first, and only then come the superstructure, the masts and the gun turrets, which are the most fragile and suffer most in handling. It pays to build in subassemblies, paint them separately and join them at the end. Sort the small parts out in advance, because in this scale they are easily lost. Leave the masts and the fine booms right to the very end; while they are on the model they are in the way at every turn and break off easily.
The hull is a large continuous surface, so fill and sand the joints carefully, or you will see them under a uniform coat. Lay the paint on in thin coats, because a heavy coat would flood the fine deck texture. Wooden decks are painted before the surrounding steel areas and then covered with a mask. A weathered shade comes better from several light transitions than from one dark wash. The exact make-up of the kit, the number of parts and the recommended procedure are given in the manufacturer's instructions.
The kit is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Paints, glue, filler and a base are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
