A set of 20 turned brass 40 mm Bofors Mk.1 barrels (1:350, Aber) for models of American warships. It is a metal detail accessory that replaces the coarse plastic barrels of the anti-aircraft guns.
Responsibility details are not available.
This set from the Polish maker Aber contains 20 turned brass barrels of the 40 mm Bofors Mk.1 anti-aircraft gun in 1:350 scale. It is not a ship model but an accurate metal accessory meant to improve plastic kits. The brass barrels have crisp outlines and the correct profile, which the plastic parts from a base kit cannot reach.
The 40 mm Bofors was the key anti-aircraft gun of the US Navy in the Second World War. It was mounted in twin and quadruple water-cooled mounts on battleships, cruisers, aircraft carriers and escort vessels and formed the backbone of close-in defense against air attack, including kamikazes.
You carefully cut the plastic barrels off the parts and replace them with the brass ones. The muzzles of the barrels are finely drilled out. Glue the metal with super glue (cyanoacrylate) and degrease it before painting. For a realistic look, spray a primer and then a shade matching American naval camouflage.
This is a detail accessory, not a model in itself. Glue, paints and the base kit are not included in the package.
