Project 613 was a postwar Soviet diesel-electric submarine of medium size, Whiskey class in the NATO reporting name. It was among the most numerously built submarines of its day and served in the navies of a number of other states as well. The basic design went through several changes during its service, which differed in the layout of the superstructure and in the armament, and the numeral after the class name refers to exactly those variants.
The foundation of the build is gluing the hull together and cleaning up the centerline seam, which on a submarine is visible along the whole length. Fill and sand in several rounds, and between them check the seam with a light overspray of gray primer, or you will discover it only after painting. Dry-fit the conning tower and the superstructure so that you know how the parts sit, and only then glue them. Leave the small parts - periscopes, aerials, railings - for the end. Paint with an airbrush in thin coats; the transition between the upper and the underwater shade is a rewarding place to lift the model with a soft blend. The weathering should stay restrained, as marked corrosion does not look convincing on an actively operated boat.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
