The Aston Martin DB5 is a British sports coupe of the first half of the 1960s that ranks among the best-known cars of its day and was made famous by film as well. You recognize it by its long hood, its bold radiator grille and the rounded roofline that flows smoothly into the rear. Under the hood works an inline six-cylinder engine, with drive to the rear wheels. It is precisely the clean shapes of the body that make the DB5 a model on which every surface imperfection shows.
This is a starter set, so besides the parts of the kit there are also paints in the box, and the build can begin with no further shopping. The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted, with the parts on sprues. The 1:43 scale is the classic size for collectible car models: the finished car fits in the palm of your hand and takes up little room in a display case.
Cut the parts from the sprue with a sharp blade a little away from the part and sand the sprue mark smooth. Go over the mold seam around the body just as carefully, because every imperfection shows on a gloss finish. Wash and degrease the parts before painting. Cover the body in thin coats with drying time between them, or the surface will lose its smoothness. Fit the glazing last of all, and with a glue that does not fog clear parts.
The set suits a beginner as well as a collector of classic cars in 1:43 scale. The package contains the kit and paints; the rest of the equipment for the build, that is thinner and tools, is not included, unless stated otherwise.
