An unassembled plastic kit of the F-8E Crusader carrier fighter in 1:48 scale, intended to be glued and painted.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Vought F-8 Crusader was a carrier fighter of the US Navy, brought into service at the end of the 1950s. The F-8E version was one of the most numerous. The armament was made up of four 20 mm guns in the forward part of the fuselage, supplemented by guided missiles on side mounts and by weapons under the wing. Power came from a single turbojet engine. The aircraft served both on the decks of aircraft carriers and with land-based units of the Marine Corps.
The most conspicuous feature of the aircraft is the variable-incidence wing. The whole wing tilted upwards on take-off and landing, so that the fuselage stayed closer to the horizontal and the pilot had a better view forward onto the deck of the aircraft carrier. Whether the kit allows the wing to be built in the raised position can be seen from the maker's instructions.
The kit is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Separate the parts with a sharp blade a little away from the part and sand the remainder carefully, so that the surrounding surface stays untouched. Mask the clear parts before spraying, not only once the paint has dried. Wash and degrease the whole model before painting, so that the paint takes well. The recommended shades and schemes can be found in the maker's instructions.
The set will please modelers who have a few 1:48 aircraft behind them and want a striking carrier machine of the Cold War for their collection. Paints, glue, filler and accessory sets are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
