The set brings two GBU-24 laser-guided bombs in the variant marked with the letter B in the name. Reskit also lists an A-B version in the same range, so the designation in the name has to be taken seriously, because the two sets are not interchangeable. The package is intended for 1:48 scale and serves to enrich the stores on a model you already have built or under construction.

The real subject

The GBU-24 belongs to the Paveway III family of laser-guided munitions, marked out by a long guidance section with canards and folding tail surfaces. The individual variants differ in the bomb body on which the guidance kit is mounted, and the differences in outline follow from that. On a model the bomb is a prominent item thanks to its length, and it calls for clean work on the leading edges.

Building and painting tips

Wash the parts free of mold release agent, cut the casting blocks off with a saw and level the surfaces by sanding wet. The thin tail surfaces are the most vulnerable part: leave fitting them until the end and handle the piece by the body of the bomb. Cyanoacrylate glue will make the joint, and the gel version suits a longer correction. It pays to paint separately from the model: a primer, the base shade and only then the fine stenciling. A dry brush brings out the edges of the guidance section, whereas a heavy wash usually does harm on smooth munitions.
