A color three-dimensional cockpit interior for a model of the Me 262A jet fighter in 1:48 scale, printed on decal paper. The elements are applied like a decal, with a brief dip in lukewarm water.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Me 262A was the single-seat fighter version of the first jet aircraft to enter service in quantity. It was powered by two jet engines slung under the wing and it had a nose landing gear, which was unusual on German combat aircraft at the time. The cockpit was covered by a heavily framed canopy, so the interior shows best on a model with the canopy open.
The sheet brings three-dimensional color elements of the cockpit fittings printed on decal paper. The elements carry real thickness, so once applied the instrument panel, the side consoles and the seat belts do not look like a flat print. The colors, the dial faces and the captions come finished from the factory.
The element is cut out, dipped in lukewarm water for about fifteen seconds and slid off the paper onto a previously painted surface with a gloss coat of the Future, Klear or Tamiya X-22 type; it has no adhesive layer of its own. In 1:48 scale the parts really are tiny, so tweezers with smooth jaws and a sharp scalpel for cutting close to the outline pay off. Sand away beforehand any raised plastic details that the new elements are meant to replace. Press them down with a soft tool and on complex spots help with a drop of super glue.
The set suits modelers who want a cockpit on the level of detail sets but do not want to assemble photo-etch or paint individual gauges. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
