A 3D decal of the canopy seal for three versions of the MiG-21 in 1:48 scale. An accessory for Eduard kits.
Responsibility details are not available.
A rubber seal runs around the perimeter of the sliding part of the canopy and seats against the frame when it is closed. On the real machine it is flat, dark and noticeably thick, so it rims the whole outline of the glazing. On a model most builders either leave it out or attempt a thin line with a brush, which on glossy, curved plastic almost never comes off well.
The great majority of cockpit improvements have a catch: the canopy has to be open for them to be worth anything. This is the exception. The seal is visible from outside whether the canopy is closed or slid back, and the work takes a fraction of the effort of resin or etched sets. For a builder who does not want to deal with the interior, it is the quickest way to add a detail to a model that even a layman notices.
This item covers three related versions of the machine at once, because their sliding canopy frame is worked out the same way. The later production variant has a different frame and is covered by a separate item, so when buying it is worth looking at which of the versions your kit actually holds.
The strip is laid in short sections and stretched slightly in the curves. A dry, degreased surface is a condition, because at the edge of the glazing there is nowhere to hide a corner.
Anyone with two machines from different periods under construction usually gets both items at once. The work with the material is the same in both cases, so neither the tools nor the order of the individual steps has to change.
