A single-sheet decal set in 1:48 focused on one machine: the Thunderbolt of the most successful American fighter pilot of the European theater.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Republic P-47 was among the heaviest single-engine fighters of the Second World War. An eighteen-cylinder radial engine with a turbocharger gave it exceptional performance at high altitude, and eight half-inch machine guns made it a feared instrument for attacks on ground targets. Its fame, however, was won above all by the pilots of the 56th Fighter Group, which kept the type even when other units were converting to Mustangs.
The sheet is devoted to a single aircraft, which carried the letters HV on the fuselage and had the individual letter A assigned to it. It was flown by Lieutenant Colonel Francis Gabreski, commander of the 61st Fighter Squadron, who ran up the highest number of aerial victories among American pilots over Europe on Thunderbolts. A sister sheet by the same manufacturer in a smaller scale specifies that it was a production block with a bubbletop canopy and that the machine was stationed in England in June 1944.
Because there is only one set of markings, it pays to handle it carefully and not to try sliding it around dry. Ideally, put a drop of water with a trace of dish soap under the decal, float the marking into place and only then draw the liquid off. A natural metal surface calls for a particularly smooth gloss coat under a decal, otherwise a silvery veil appears under the film.
The contents are a printed sheet only. Neither a kit nor varnish is enclosed with it.
