About product

Carrier deck crew in red jerseys, 1:48 scale

This is a figure set with a scene, not an aircraft model. It contains four figures of American carrier deck crew in red jerseys, an ammunition loader and a long-range air-to-air missile intended for the F-14 fighter. The set is designated as scene two and, compared with the first scene, it offers twice the number of figures, so a whole working tableau can be built rather than just a pair of men at the loader. The color of a jersey on deck has a functional meaning: red belonged to the ordnance handlers, that is, to those who dealt with munitions.

The real subject

Loading heavy missiles under the wings and the fuselage took place on the flight deck with the help of a low loader with a hydraulic lifting arm. The crew worked in the cramped space between parked aircraft and in a noise in which they communicated by hand signals. A scene with several men around a single loader is therefore typical for a flight deck diorama.

Usage tips

  • Wash the parts in lukewarm soapy water; residue stays on the surface after printing.
  • Cut the print supports off as close to the part as possible and sand the marks down; they have nothing to do with casting.
  • Bond with super glue; printed resin does not react to cement for plastic.
  • Apply a primer before painting, otherwise the finish comes off while the parts are handled.
  • Place the figures so that they react to one another, otherwise the scene does not work.

Who it is for

The set is for builders of flight deck dioramas and for modelers who are adding a setting to a finished fighter. Painting figures in this scale calls for practice and a fine brush.

It is not an aircraft model. Paints, glue and the kit are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

In the number of figures. This one contains four and is designated as the second scene, so a whole working tableau can be built.

It is not. It is a figure set with a scene. The kit has to be obtained separately.

The color of the jersey on the flight deck determines the role. Red belonged to the ordnance handlers and to the ordnance disposal crews.
