This set replaces the landing gear wheels on models of the American fighters Vought F4U Corsair and Grumman F6F Hellcat in 1:48 scale. The version matches the type of tire used on machines operating from land bases. It is not an airplane model but an aftermarket accessory from the Ukrainian manufacturer Reskit, with a crisply cast tread pattern and a cleanly rendered rim.
You will recognize the Vought F4U Corsair by its inverted gull wing, which made it possible to use a large propeller with a powerful radial engine. The Grumman F6F Hellcat was by comparison a structurally more straightforward machine built around the same engine class, and it became the backbone of American carrier fighter aviation in the Pacific. Both types flew not only from aircraft carriers but in large numbers from land bases, where a different runway surface and different tire wear awaited them.
Wash the castings in lukewarm soapy water, cut the casting blocks off and level the mating surface with a file, ideally wet and with respiratory protection. They are glued with cyanoacrylate glue. Paint the tires a dark gray and add a fine dust pigment once dry; spray the rims separately so that the transition stays crisp.
The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted and is not a standalone model. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
